Founder and Chairperson : The Founder and the Chairman of Pakistan Institute of Human Rights is Dr. Syed Mohammed Anwer who is a well known advocate from Islamabad Pakistan. He is an alumni of Utrecht University’s Netherlands Institute of Human Rights . He is a devoted human rights activist and author of many books and articles most famous one are :Islam Main Aurat Ki Gawahi Adhi Nahi ( on status of women’s evidence in Islamic Law) and Nikah Main Walli Ki Hasiat ( on women’s right to choose in marriage ) which are used as reference books . In addition of writing research papers and books he is parliamentary counsel also and has drafted many important laws for Pakistan. Dr. Syed Anwer has diversified academic career, on the one hand he studied in the traditional religious seminary Jami Sirjia and did Malvi Fazil and Daura-i- Tafseer while on the other hand he got masters degrees in Islamic Studies, Arabic Language, Master in Oriental Learning (MOL), LL.M in International Economic Law and M.Phil in Comparative Political Studies and Administration in Asia. He also did specialization in International Law from The Hague Academy of International Law and in International Trade Law for European Study Institute.
Directors
Ms Hina Basharat: A famous women rights activist ,an advocate of human rights and practicing lawyer of Rawalpindi/Islamabad. She is equally committed to her family life and the passion of promotion of human rights in Pakistan. She renders pro bono legal assistance to the deserving women. She is one of the Directors of the Institute.
Abdur Rehman : is director and in charge of computer section and data base of the Institute. He is masters in Library Science and Computer Sciences A qualified librarian/documentist and certified software engineer of Microsoft. He is also in charge of maintaining documents for the office of PIHR and also for their hosting on the web portal of the Institute.
Niaz.A.Abassi : is law Graduate from the Punjab University and LL.M for Belgium besides he has done his masters in Political Science from Punjab University ,he is director and in charge of Civil Liberties Promotion campaign of the Institute
Syed Tanver Haider : is a senior advocate and human rights activist with a vast experience of working with different national and international NGOs . He is director and in charge of human resource development of the Institute.
Fazal i Rabbi : is a Pakistani Dubai based senior advocate of the High Court works internationally and an alumni of International Islamic University . Presently he is in charge of immigration and refugee issues. He is a Director of the Institute.
Muhammad Rauf Chaudhry. He hails from a district of central Punjab, a well known advocate of High Court regularly practicing in Islamabad having keen interest in promotion of Civil and Political Rights in Pakistan. He remained active in student politics during the year 1981~82 in district Sahiwal. He is one of the directors of the institute.
Program Coordinators
Mr. Yasir Masud : is a lawyer and has done his LL.M in Corporate Law from the UK. Although a corporate lawyer by profession, he has a keen interest in Humanitarian Law which has prompted him to undertake this assignment as a consultant with the institute. He has worked as a research associate at the Human Rights Study Center with the Faculty of Law, Peshawar University and is a free lance columnist on Human Rights issues in some of the leading English Daily newspapers. He is program coordinator in the Institute.
Chaudhry Muhammad Awais : An advocate of High Court and an activist of human rights. His specific area of concern is Consumers Protection Rights. He renders pro bono legal services. He did his graduation from International Islamic University in 1990 and subsequently did his LL.M from the same University in 1994. He is project coordinator of Consumers Protection Rights
Rashid Afzal Khokhar : A young promising advocate form Rawalpindi, a committed volunteer of human rights , remained associated with other NGOs also. He is one of the program coordinators in the Institute.
Syed Mazhar Husssain Naqvi : a prominent lawyer from Lahore , remained active in student politics and subsequently in the politics of Bar Association a devoted volunteer of human rights committee to the cause of the Institute . He is on of the Program Coordinators of the Institute.
Project Directors
Chaudhry Muhammad Junaid Akhter : He is one of the project directors of the Institute , a well known lawyer of Islamabad, having keen interest in promotion of Human Right in Pakistan. He remained a member of Human Rights committee of The Punjab Bar Council for a very long time and while he was the only member of this prestigious committee form Islamabad he helped in releasing number of prisoners for the Adyala Jail who were therefore many month or years with out any proper legal justification.
Sarfraz Ali Khan : An advocate of High Court committed to the promotion of Economic Social and Cultural rights in Pakistan. He is an active member of number of other human rights fora . He has commendable credential for administering a Non Governmental Organization. Sarfraz is an Alumni of International Islamic University and a one of the Project Directors of the Pakistan Institute of Human Rights.
Ms.Javeria Baig : is a young advocate and a volunteer of the Institute provides legal assistance to women in criminal cases. She is in charge of gender issues and violence against women.
Mohammed Ahmed : is an educationist and dedicated volunteer of the Institute , he is also an advocate in Islamabad . He is in charge of project “Promotion of Contemporary Education in Madrasas.”
Malik Qammar Abbas Jaura : The office assistant and a dedicated worker of the Pakistan Institute of Human Rights
