Pakistan Institute of Human Rights (PIHR) is the first & unique institution of its kind in Pakistan. It is run completely by Pakistani professionals, volunteers and human rights advocates. It works independently and as well as in collaboration with the international and national human rights institutions and organizations, to promote and protect the internationally recognized human rights norms and ideas through advocacy, mass awareness, and service delivery by using education, mass communication and pro bono services as its fundamental tools.

PIHR was founded on 10th of December, 1998 on the eve of 50th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights, by a few Human Rights advocates, and ever since its inception the whole team of volunteers of PIHR is putting its best efforts to achieve the aims of PIHR. Although, PIHR took an humble start but with the passage of time it has become a reputed academic and research institution. The Institute is nationally and internationally acclaimed and recognized as an independent think tank.

Primarily the institute is a research based academic Institution which serves the purpose of a think tank for promotion of the Universal Human Rights concept including all parallel human rights concepts present any where in the World. PIHR is a non-profit and non-political Institute and is duly registered under the law of Pakistan.
